Food trucks wanted for Fort Clarence

Guardsman Hospitality (GH) is calling for food truck tenders as it prepares to reopen Fort Clarence Beach.

“We know food is a big part of the Fort Clarence Beach experience and we thought it prudent, since the food stalls are not ready for use, that we offer entrepreneurs an opportunity to service the public,” said Laura Heron, general manager of Guardsman Hospitality.

Heron revealed that the attraction development and management company is in the final phase of completing remedial work and is looking forward to welcoming the public on Sunday, December 15.

“We want food truck operators to make applications for spaces to serve the public when we open,” Heron shared. “As we begin the developments, we hope to schedule the hosting of food trucks as GH does not plan to be operating the food facilities or concessionaires.”

GH started its 25-year lease of the popular beach from the Urban Development Corporation on September 1, 2019 and was the only entity to bid for the beach's management after three invitations to tender.

At the time of the beach's closure in September, the company conducted a thorough assessment and finalised the features of the beach complex. Among GH's initial discoveries after the handover were the compromised structures that dotted the property, chief among them three buildings used for the preparation of food.

“The state of these areas does not meet GH standards. Having walked the property and done our investigations, some of the [features] are going to have to be relocated. We are in the final stages of cementing the development plan,” Heron shared.
